Would you rather buy or rent a car?

If you lived in a big city like New York, Paris or Madrid (and provided that public transport around the city is readily available at a good price), would you still consider buying a car? If you only ‘escape’ the city once in a while for a weekend break or annual holiday, wouldn’t renting on a day-per-day basis be more sensible?

honestly, if you live in a big european city, you don't need a car. public transport gets you there as fast. but either way i would never rent. cause once you give it back, you gotta pay all the little dings and scratches that eventually accumulate

Buy a car. When you buy a car and take care of it you can get 12-15 years out of it. It may take 5 years to pay it off. That means that you have ten years of no car payments.

If you lease a car you make car payments forever.
