Where would you rather spend new year eve?

In the UK most of us celebrated new year on the 1st Jan. However there are a few places that still cling on to the old Juilian calendar and celebrate it mid January

For example
Burghead, Scotland Jan 11th
Cwm Gwaun, Wales 13th Jan
(There's probably more and I dont know why they're not the same date)
The main reason they cling to the old ways is to be awkward.

Burghead is on the North East Coast of Scotland, is surrounded by a beach and has "The Burning of the Clavie"

Cwm Gwaun is a tiny village in a valley about 10 minutes from the coast and is where, according to legend, King Arthur had his ass kicked by a giant pig.

So, you want to celebrate new year all over again, so where you heading?

These dates are probably a reminder of old traditions and/or religions, before Christianity took hold of a large part of Europe. In some cases, Christianity took over the same dates.

I don't know about this particular one, but the Christian celebration of Christmas actually leads back to the Romans as a way to co-opt and tame the pagan holiday of Saturnalia, which was itself essentially a celebration of the days getting longer after the winter solstice. Saturnalia was celebrated in honor of Saturn, the god of agriculture, as a weeklong celebration in the days leading up to the winter solstice.

Chester, England still does a saturnalia festival with roman soldiers marching through the town and Caerleon, Wales holds one in the roman fort. There's a village near me called Llansadwrn which translates into the church of Saturn

Cwm Gwaun. Even though I want to visit Scotland one day, the tiny village looks more quite and peaceful. And it's looks more like what I would prefer if given a choice between the two.
