Have you been to Cozumel? What was it like and did you feel safe?

I went there on a cruise years ago, but didn’t get to see the island itself because I opted to see Tulum. I’m planning on going back next year.

Hmm, Cozumel. It used to be nice but now they build a ridiculous and ugly outdoor mall there. I don’t like it anymore. But if you go, go to Punta Sur. Take a jeep tour, see the lighthouse, maybe snorkel swim out to the reef about 100 meters where we saw barracuda and a ton of fish.

It is safe but if your steering goes out, just get out of there as the gangsters are there and extort the cruise excursion business I think and threaten them with “accidents”.

I’m not worried about a mall lol. What I care about are Mayan ruins. My plan is to stay a few days, maybe a week in a hotel. Do you think that’s a bad idea? I just prefer to fly as opposed to sailing.

The only ruins we saw there was a small stone structure that had a shell made into a horn that sounded as high winds went through it during a storm/hurricane. Maya Costa had a nice Mayan Ruin / pyramid but is a different Mexican port and then a long bus ride.

For the best ruins, Teotihuacan is the place to go and that is near Mexico City.

I think a week is too long for Cozumel. I have been there 6-8 times and won’t be going back. Punta Sur was the most interesting part for me.

That’s a little disappointing. I thought about going to Mexico City, but after a few videos it’s too high of a risk. I’ve been to Tulum, might have to be content with that.

For me Cozumel would be a 2-3 day trip. It is not a very big island and it is solely for tourists.

While touring Mexico's Quintana Roo state, we added Cozumel to our hops.

I actually enjoyed it there than our main hop, Cancun.

And, yes, I felt safe.
