I have not lived in Canada but have known a couple of expatriates well. They seem a little more reserved and less warmly open than Australians on average. I guess this is climate-driven... Spaniards are different than Brits that way too, New Englanders vs Californians? Overall, though, my impression is that Canadian cultural norms and values are fairly similar to that of us Aussies.

A non-trivial difference, though, is that Australia is a easily 24 hours of travel away from much of the rest of the world... I spent more than 40 hours straight travelling back from Bavaria once... not fun.

I'm Canadian and I know quite a few people who lived in both. The only difference is the weather. We go snowboarding and they go surfing. The people are very similar.

The only disadvantage is long distance. But don't worry about spiders. My moms cousin has moved there recently and she said that people are overreacting. They are not on the city centre
