How are you at driving in the snow? How was it the FIRST time you drove in snow?

When I say "the FIRST time", I mainly mean for those that moved from an area that doesn't get snow, to an area that does. I used to be good at driving in snow but I moved south four years ago. A few days ago, I was out of town and rented a car, when I woke up in the morning, there was basically a blizzard! I did absolutely terrible driving in it... I was hitting the brakes to turn into a gas station and just kept on going straight! Almost hit a car pulling out.. I eventually remembered the basics but I'm sure me driving 30 mph on major highways pissed a lot of people off that drive in it yearly.

Moving way north from Florida, I cried the first time I drove in snow! Most of my crying was because of the other drivers beeping at me and flipping me off as they passed me 😭 For a while, I actually took the bus to work when it snowed. @DryGermanGuy is right, I had a Ford Focus that my Florida neighbor sold me but I'm sure it had balled tires and wasn't fully maintained for winter driving lol My uncle told me to buy a GMC Yukon, like he drove, which I always liked his truck, so, I did! FWD, spacious and handles nice.. I still get nervous but have a lot more confidence. This is my third winter and I haven't taken the bus once 😂

GMC Yukon's are actually good vehicles. My wife had an Envoy, absolute garbage! I don't even think they make them anymore. She bought a Yukon and really likes it! Been driving it for two years.

Good good, still haven’t hit anybody. 😂 I’ve been driving in heavy snow for years, it doesn’t bother me. Fog is what freaks me out.

I think fog bothers most people. I also hate driving in heavy rain, especially at night. I think I just shouldn't drive, unless it's sunny out...

Born and raised in the snow, and I've yet to ever have a problem.

I've driven FWD, RWD, AWD, 4WD, manual, automatic, and do just fine in all of them. One of my annual activities is to drive around during the first snow of the year, and help people that are in the ditch.

I'm also an "essential worker" so even if the whole city gets shut down for snow, I still have to go in, and I've never had an issue making it.

That's actually cool of you to help people out. Growing up, my neighbor was like that. He actually loved driving in the snow and helping people and when they offered him money, he would ask if they had a check they could write out to Toys For Tots. One year he raised over a thousand dollars!

Oh wow, that was nice of him. I've only ever had one or two people offer me any compensation, and I just tell them to keep it. I never thought of that, but it's a good idea.

With FWD and winter tires, it's not that difficult.

With RWD it can get dicey quickly (I remember a few sliding situations).

I had a Ford Focus, which I'm assuming is front wheel. It was scary AF the couple times hitting the brakes while turning. Then, as soon as I remembered to let off the brakes, it's a sudden jerk.. lol I also think a problem for me is I'm a very aggressive driver. I was white knuckled all the way to the airport!

Yes, the Focus is FWD. Could your ABS/TCS system have been malfunctioning?

It was a rent a car and I don't know what kind of service they get but yeah, I was thinking about that. Even when I came up to red lights, I would hit the breaks and slide... They're supposed to click and never lock up, correct?

Exactly. With a working system you would hear it humming in the engine compartment and feel a slight vibration in the brake pedal.

Yes! I remember that lol my first vehicle was my dad's old Chevy truck and I remembered the pedal would vibrate and the suddenly just drop to the floor when you would brake on snow or ice. Are you a mechanic?

No, but I like to repair some of the easier things on my cars myself.

I'm pretty good at driving in the snow since I grew up and still live in New England where it's winter a lot but I won't get into whining about how cold and miserable it is too much.

I grew up in an area that had spring and summer in the same week also. Now I live where I can wear my Speedo all year! I just hate when I'm on the beach and people ask me, "Why are you wearing a sweater?" I'm kind of hairy 😔

I love driving in the snow. I moved from so California to Montana when I was 19 and took to the snow just fine. I still look forward to a winter storm so I can go for a drive.
