Eurovision had to skip 2020 due to the pandemic. But it is back in 2021! The finals are on Saturday. You may not realize the contest's importance. It has launched the careers of performers such as Bucks Fizz.

Not at all, but since you bring it up i thought i would have a look.

I looked at my own country and the winner.

Neither of these seem to get what I had thought Eurovision was about.

To my mind, the entry is kind of supposed to be shit, or at least sort of fun and not taking itself at all seriously.

The UK entry was certainly shit but not in a good way and the winners are clearly taking themselves far too seriously and could almost be considered to be cheating on the basis that they actually turned up with something you could listen to all the way through without cutting yourself.

Hopefully some of the other countries got into the spirit of the event and rounded up some vaguely musical homeless people and dressed them up like clowns before firing them onto the stage out of a cannon along with far too much glitter and poor disco lighting.

Lets face it, Eurovision peaked with ABBA and we will never see their like again.

I watched it the last time in 1980.
I clearly remember the Turkish contribution that made me refuse the whole spectacle.

Only once I 'appreciated' the show later: when a German comedian punk manipulated/exploited the pre-elections to ridicule the contest. Much to the dismay of the 'establishment' :D

I got dragged into becoming a fan back in my early teens. Its an unserious music festival of community and kitsch. I got to go to the finals in my late teens in Sweden, in a lot of ways, it was more exciting than Coachella.

It's Europe's Super Bowl. Basically a song contest, where all of Europe battles each other until a winner is picked. They say on the night of the finals, European streets are completely empty because everybody is inside watching the show. I think even Australia is allowed to participate now.
