Or the afterlife is merely a painted path on a brick wall that only the sentient living can believe is real. I get why everyone would want to believe in an afterlife. I don't get why there would actually be one. And if there is a god I am 100% convinced no religion has correctly guessed its nature.
I have no comfort to offer. Only the chance that we might be able to leave the world better than we found it and that we might be remembered for it if one of the things thing we do better is establish a culture of focusing on the positive. But that's not reasonable or even possible until we have removed from the least of us as many negative attributes of the world as we can.

I'm a christian... a wayist, Christianity is the only true, the only religion in fact all others are false, although these days there are a multitude of fake Christians. The proof are in the prophecies that came true and are coming true in the King James Bible.
None have proof, though. None of the prophecies came true unless you count those that vaguely repeated history, which is not the same. No magic has occured. Nothing in this world requires divine intervention to explain: not even the existence of religion, itself.

What specifically are you asking is fake? Evolution? That's a theory that best fits the evidence. The evidence is not fake. Whether you set out to prove a god is real or prove the god is fake you must necissarily take the exact same steps or you are not approaching the question objectively.
But scientists don't set out to do either. Rather, they look at a situation and are unsatisfied with the explanation "a god did it," and so wonder if there is an explanation that only requires common, dull, reliable, repeatable, reproducible rules, no magic needed. Indeed, I'm sure religious people once scoffed with equal fervor at the prospect that the sun was not, in fact, the wheel of a chariot being driven around the world by a god.
Scientists bases and proof of humans evolving from apes is in fact fake and fraudulent. They take tiny pieces of a skull "Lucy" for instance and fabricate it to their liking to look like a human ape hybrid. They have to fake it all to try to prove evolutions existence to try to disprove God's existence.
No one has ever seriously said humans evolved from apes. Religious people, clinging to their faith, say it's what scientists say, but that's a lie. Why do you think your religious leaders feel like they need to lie to you about what scientists say?

@SlightlyEccentric I think those of us who watched a few years of full house became filthy and crass ourselves about the time he did. He'd do standup in college towns and go on legendary drinking binges with people from his audience. Even when he was trashed and crass, he was always the genuine article and a very sweet and uncommonly creative human being. I'd watch an episode of Full House first and then his standup on YT. He IS occasionally super dirty
