Is it like everything is at a stand still or is it business as usual?
+1 yMostly business as usual, I think, here in Canada. It will affect governments and political bodies more than anything. Flags at half mast except on King Charles' accession day, Queen's portraits wreathed in black cloth, government figures to be dressed in black for mourning, lots of coverage of the UK.
But generally normal.
Most of the younger generation Canadians don't have much respect for monarchies anyways.30 Reply

I'm from the UK but in a small suburb in Australia currently, where a lot of indigenous people live, who didn't like the Queen, so no one cares here really.

+1 yI'm not in the UK right now but most of the population don't care for the royals (or at least don't when the media doesn't drill "our gran" propaganda into them but lots of stuff cancelled. The TV is playing royalist propaganda all day. 2022 and all this for a family of thieves and murderers. Madness

Took the words out of my mouth. Thieves and murderers.
It's pandemonium in London right now, traffic is at a standstill, everyone is crying and beating themselves with sticks, people are throwing themselves off of skyscrapers.. one Buddhist monk set himself alight outside Buckingham Palace in protest at the Queen's death, it's total chaos!!

+1 yMy country is no longer a colony. Once I talked to a British man who called India a kid of the UK 😂 but the kid is not mourning her death at all 🤷♀️. I'm sorry but no one really cares here. Most Indians actually hate the British (I don't).

+1 yWell, people are going to work and stuff. Like the economy and business are carrying on as normal, but it's got a surreal air to it all, as the TV stations are all airing tributes. It's really weird.
Simples...
10 ReplyPeople are obviously very sad/shocked but the economy can’t handle coming to a standstill.

I'm really curious as to why people are shocked that a 96 year old woman died and for what reason they are sad? I mean I'm serious.
- +1 y
But what has she done for you as a Commonwealth resident that makes her death of such a huge consequence. She didn't run Britain in anyway since the Monarchy is just decoration. I mean apart from her waving all blinged out and her being on the money, what did she do to earn such an attachment.
- +1 y
The monarch does have some constitutional duties, the most significant being the approval of new governments. A monarch may also formally approve legislation, appoint certain officials, or grant state honors. Outside of the UK, a royal representative known as a governor-general is appointed to carry out these duties.

Uh huh. And holding together a legacy of colonialism and all the warm and fuzzies that come with that.

What does Spain and France have to do with being sad about the Queen? I just don't get how people have this big connection to this woman.
The only people who seem to care are the ones writing headlines. And they only care for the views.

u +1 yPeople here are celebrating for the most part lol.

Well she did nothing good for my country. A lot of the people here have been fighting for years to put things back to the way that they were before they were colonised. Makes perfect sense to me as to why they would be celebrating.
- +1 y
What country are you from? She didn't personally colonize any country, yes she was the Queen but she also still had orders to follow and things she's not allowed to do. I just think it's strange to celebrate the death of an old woman, especially since her son is now King, not like the Monarchy has been abolished.
- +1 y
Yeah, I wanna know which country it is that thinks was better before colonialism.
- +1 y
The only country colonised by Britain thats not come out of it better off is Myanmar. Not sure why. So unless you'd prefer to be picking rice instead of playing on gag I suggest you look at your history again
- +1 y
@johnboymuscles Well... in terms of culture, Egypt and the Gulf states are still very backwards. But in terms of infrastructure and economics, you are correct.
Yemen is the only other exception besides Myanmar.
I wouldn't say the former colonies are better off currently, but that's not because of the British, but because of the blacks. It's no accident that the only successful black nations are the ones that chose to remain colonies of European countries.
The woke left can think what they want, but the reality is, that black societies fail without White people guiding them. And yes, it IS specifically black societies, because former non-black colonies are doing quite well. - +1 y
@KostasKouvalis better for who?
