As you know, I’ve studied this new Cold War for a while, but there’s A LOT more to this. For example, Biden literally just murdered China’s entire semiconductor industry a few days ago, forming allies in the Indo Pacific (especially with India who is the next great economic superpower), and a long term strategy that if I’m correct, is brilliant since it is following the advice of the legendary military strategist Edward Luttwak. Also, Pakistan is a terror supporting state. I just wish the West didn’t take so long to finally take a stand (at least publicly) about it since India has been complaining about it for decades now. Biden may just be trying to gain India’s friendship by shifting preferences as they did with Pakistan vs India decades ago.

I'm not trying to invoke his name, but it was Trump who formed the Indo Pacific union first, as well as being the only president in modern history to stand up to China and threaten them. So you can't credit the Biden administration with that, especially since they won't even admit to standing by Taiwan and heling them against China.

And while Pakistan does a lot of shady BS, the last thing the US needs right now is more enemies to side with China and Russia. Biden shouldn't have even left Afghanistan, cause that was a colossal f*ck-up, too.

It's all good man, but the QUAD (if that's what you're referring to) was actually started under Shinzo Abe in 2007, but it didn't truly take effect until Trump because Australia and India were being flaky. Also, just as it is in life, so it is in politics, the timing was perfect due to COVID and Trump is a supreme opportunist. The CCP has the intelligence of a 14 year old bully when it comes to strategic imbecility, so in effect, they literally (and still very much are today) just keep giving reasons to join the global alliance forming against China.

I do appreciate Trump waking all of us up to the threat of the CCP, but Biden did more damage to China in one swift stroke by pretty much obliterating their semiconductor industry - they'll be nearly a decade behind now in tech, AI, etc. Imagine if I asked you to go back to the second or third generation Iphone vs the 14?

Do not forget AUKUS (despite my disagreement with it) and regarding his flakiness regarding Taiwain, it's a simple calculus: why would you show your hand to your enemy? The US has maintained "strategic ambiguity" on Taiwan on purpose because if your enemy knows your there, there's a higher chance of their success against you.

Internally, the US military has been training and supplying weapons to Taiwan, but it's a delicate balancing act - if China feels that Taiwan is getting TOO much support/weapons, it will force them to invade sooner than later. Our advisors at Merill Lynch believe that China has no choice but to invade within 2 years, but the logistics towards invasion are complex and me personally, it will set China back decades should they attempt such a foolish move.

The problem is that no matter what economic, strategic, political, etc arguments I get from Merill, Trump, Biden, Libertarians, etc is that all these arguments are LOGICAL/RATIONAL, but in the mind of a megalomaniac dictator, he is in an IRRATIONAL mindset. In short, the application of an unstable person means more unpredictability.

The essence of political strategy is the "fait accompli." Taking small steps/putting your feet in the water metaphor to test the market. Making dramatic moves can lead to dramatic responses and go out of control.

Lastly, regarding Afghanistan, it was Trump that actually that had made the deal with Taliban and Biden for some reason could not revoke it when he became President. Moreover, those resources had to be redeployed to the Indo Pacifc. Even the US can't be everywhere at once. I couldn't tell you why exactly Biden is picking on Pakistan now, but from what I've read so far, the US Department of State is in major PR/damage control right now regarding the issue.

I suppose you are right. I didn't follow the semiconductor news all that much, cause I know China were hoping to have owned Taiwan by now, anyway. I think Russia kinda delayed their plans indefinitely after seeing how disastrous that is going. Putin is willing to destroy all of Russia's economy just to win an unwinnable war, and Russia was far more prideful as a nation than the people of China are; who pretty much hate their government as much you'd expect. Morale is everything in war, and with China's one-child-per-household policy, most people aren't willing to die or have their only sons die in a pointless war with Taiwan and make their bloodline extinct.

The US seems more like they want China's money more than they want to be strategic. I mean, Biden pulled out of Afghanistan more sloppy than a drunk guy on prom night. I doubt there's any "strategy" under his administration. That, or maybe the smart people are just keeping Biden in the dark on everything.

Trump was in talks on possibly leaving, but I don't know if he made any concrete deals that said they HAD to leave. Either way, giving over billions of dollars in weapons to the Taliban is idiotic, no matter how you look at it.

And the US standing up against Taiwan would deter China from doing anymore damage than they've already done.

What’s interesting is that the CCP has been saying for decades, long before Xi, that they are going to reclaim Taiwan over and over again, but you pointed out one of the few hidden but major costs in a war – the one child policy. In Chinese culture (as you may already know since you live in South Korea), it is the child that is expected to not only take care of the parents, but grandparents as well. Not to mention that China’s demographic crisis is insane. Their system cannot support 1/3 of the population that is set to be at the age of 60 or higher.

While I was pleased with the semiconductor stranglehold, the problem is that if you study Chinese culture in depth, its all about indirection. In short, they’ll just buy US semiconductor companies or create third parties here in the US to purchase advance tech to get what they need. If that doesn’t work, they’ll just go into overdrive to steal that tech. Will it be successful? Well, they’ve been trying to be successful at it for decades, but haven’t gotten very far. My hope is that the Biden administration has foreseen this.

Regarding Russia, Putin is usually a risk taker, but this time, he became a gambler and most likely due to ambition. A downside from the war is that China now has the “blueprints” of what to expect to a certain degree should China invade Taiwan. I’ll share a few gold nuggets with you that you won’t really hear from the news about the Taiwan invasion.

First, one phone call from the G7 to cut off food imports would starve China to death within 1 year (unlike Russia, China does not produce their own energy or protein, they import most of their goods). Two, Taiwan is in a far stronger position due to it being an island (the movies always make it look easy, but beach invasions are notoriously difficult to do), it’s a rich country so it can afford weapons and with today’s technology could make it unconquerable, there’s 24 million people on that island vs 1 million PLA, and Japan has already stated that it would come to Taiwan’s aid because if Taiwan falls, Japan is next. Also, according to one mentor, he believes that if China gets too aggressive, it will force Taiwan and Japan to go nuclear, but how will China react to this? It’s a scary thought.

Lastly, the day China invades Taiwan…. Russia becomes our ally. Surprised? It’s not the West that threatens control over Vladivostok and Siberia, it’s China. If you speak to the people of Vladivostok and in Siberia, declassified Russian military intelligence files state that China’s interest in Siberia and Vladivostok are “dormant.” In other words, they know China is eventually coming for them. Even before the war with Ukraine, Russia is a dying great power – they’re going through major economic and demographic collapse. The sanctions and Western companies pulling out of Russia just accelerated this. The biggest problem however is that the Taiwanese government has been lackey when training their people – what’s the point of making allies, stirring speeches about fighting for Taiwan’s independence, buying fancy weapons etc if you’re populace doesn’t even know how to use them? SMH.

My only fear is that with one’s belly soon to be empty or even could be at the moment, how does a nation then react? That’s also a scary thought.

Anyway, regarding China’s money, I’m actually writing my upper level writing paper in law school about this or more specifically, the Sarbanes Oxley Act. Congress is finally taking a stance that was started under Trump to ensure that China allows auditors to check their books, otherwise they could be delisted. Unfortunately, it’s not a simple thing to just cut off a country without facing backlash or collateral damage with a country as large as China. Many 401ks, Western companies, many of our goods are produced in China, etc are far more invested in China than in Russia.

To simply cut off China or their money could possibly cause an immediate recession, but what’s important is that we’re starting to close ourselves off to them, but we need to do more with the ultimate goal to cut them off completely or up to a point where they’re only a minor irritation.
Yeah, we left Afghanistan in a mess and despite my disagreements with Biden on a few fronts (as I do with almost all Presidents), the US is just overwhelmingly powerful, but the only department that has become useless is its intelligence networks. They thought that Afghanistan government would hold, but it doesn’t take a genius to understand that the government in place was just a bunch of lackeys who got fat with US dollars. They also thought (along with Russian intelligence) that the Ukraine would fall within a week. The problem? The CIA refuses to even require their agents to even speak or know the language of where they are stationed around the world now. SMH

Yes, in the short run, standing up to China would deter China, but as I said, with unpredictable Xi, two nuclear armed states going to war is not a scenario I want to imagine. It will most likely be a short conflict with sanctions that I mentioned above already, but that’ll just force China to become more aggressive because they’re belly is about to become empty soon.

China could be conquered almost entirely with one chokepoint in the South China Sea, which is why they're so adamant in taking the entire sea over.

South Korea in general, is kinda clueless. China bought out an island in the southwest part of Korea for its Belt and Road Initiative under the last Korea president, Moon, but he left being unpopular and Korea (seeing the news around the world) is only NOW starting to wake up. Their new president here, Yoon, is an anti-woke Conservative and not into kissing China's ass like Jae-in Moon did. (Moon was basically another Obama/Trudeau liberal type; all charisma, no balls.)

Everyday Korean people are still kinda clueless, but starting to get the picture with China. Korea is still stuck on hating Japan for their ugly past, but as of 2022, are starting to see China is the real threat. As of right now, they're starting to realize how dangerous China is and putting their old grudges with Japan aside, cause South Korea LIKES money and hates war. It's going to take time before the public zeitgeist changes, but at least the smart and in-the-know Koreans are starting to get it. Most people though, are still kinda clueless about China. It's kind of like where the US was, in 2010. Or possibly, 2018-2019.
