What do you think about the two Americans killed during a Mexican cartel kidnapping gone wrong?

A group of four from the US went to Mexico for one of them to have cosmetic surgery as these things are often cheaper done out of the country. After getting lost on their drive, they were allegedly mistaken in Mexico by the cartel for being Haitian drug dealers. They were shot at, 2 were killed. The other two returned back to the US with 1 shot in the leg, and the original patient returned uninjured. There was a high alert sent to citizens not to travel to this area but they had been to the area before, and supposedly thought it to be safe despite the warnings for citizens not to go to the dangerous area.

1. Going to Mexico for any reason is foolish. The country is a lawless country. The police are just as much outlaws as the cartels. Bad move.

2. This is why we need to secure the boarders. There have been incidents of cartels entering the U. S. to murder and kidnap. There are signs along I8 (interstate route 8) that warn Americans about drug activity, human smuggling and armed criminals. These signs encourage travelers to use other routs. That route begins less than 50 miles south of Phoenix and is more than 100 miles north of the border.

Why should Americans have to fear for their safety from foreign nationals in their own country?

These open boarders allow criminals to freely do as they please. The border needs to be closed. Yeah, I know I’m a racist, nativist and xenophobe. What I find even more concerning is left wing people support open boarders despite these things. Because trying to pretended we’re not nativists, xenophobes and racists is more important than public safety to them.

I think that the Biden Administration will brush this off as "No big deal" just like everything else related to cartels and illegal immigrants. The only thing that might cause change is if a member of the democratic party becomes a victim to something like this.

I'm for what happened to them but that why you have to go and to the State Department's website first to see if it is safe for us Americans to go there. I like going to Canada but before I go there I ALWAYS consult the State Department's website to see if there is any places that I need to avoid before buying my ticket. I mean just you'd been there before, it doesn't mean that things and the atmosphere is going is not going to change. We're living in a world now situations and violence that might be in one place can easily spread to a different part of a country. No country in this world is stable now. You really got to be careful where you're going. That's what I've been trying to tell one of my friends because she also believed that Mexico was safe. Turns out that when she read an article about the violence and whatnot spreading throughout Mexico, she had to admit that Mexico isn't safe anymore. So she chose another place to vacation.

It's a tragedy what happened, a classic wrong place, wrong time scenario it sounds like. Misfortune can strike at the worst times, and willingly ignoring the warnings from government authorities can be an issue if you're a tourist in an unfamiliar land. They didn't deserve what happened to them, and I hope their families can heal from this soon.

very sad to have a war zone south of our border, leeching into our country. Not wise to go there, and for something that wasn't even necessary. We all make mistakes or are unlucky, sometimes they are permanent.

they have 10 days to turn themselves in, else we send 50,000 troops in and we find them. need to cleanup the mess anyways. After that, keep them marching til they take over all the way to honduras and buy the place and make it new states all in between.

Classic case of stupid radical mexicans that are desperate to just survive. Made some absolutely garbage choices and paid for it in spades.

I mean doesn't take a genius to know the typical Haitian is most definitely not gonna be a bloated American. When most Haitians are skinny cause they can barely afford dirt cakes. My 2 cents is that part of mexico is just filled with filthy desperate people.

As to the abducted people they were just stupid morons who failed to do research in terms of logistics and drove through one of the roughest parts of Mexico. Something that I have little to no sympathy about.

I've never understood why people go to area's of high risk for American's. Even if they've been there before, like trying to go to Russia or Venezuela right now.

I say great, that is their choice and freedom BUT the US government shouldn't be trying to get you out if you go to prison for breaking the laws or get kidnapped. You choose to go to a high risk area, you deal with the consequences.

American's have been warned for many years not to go/vacation in Mexico. Back then Americans were getting killed in vacation hot spots like Cancun during the day.

I believe too many people think they are invincible and never think anything bad will happen to them. I'm sure everyone knows people like this. Maybe that's what happened in this case.

When Grandpa retires, my hope is that we send in the Marines to  terminate the cartels . If the Mexican military or Federales resist us,  terminate them too . If regional tinhorn "leaders" give us back pressure,  terminate them too . Do you see the pattern here? Mexico is corrupt, failed state. Perhaps their oil reserves will help pay for the Fentanyl deaths and the flood of illegals. We should be building cars here, anyway.

These things happen in most countries. I live in the US and unfortunately, we have way more shootings where innocents end up dead than most places worldwide, but when it happens in other countries, we (Americans) make a big deal about it. It is good to look in the mirror once in a while
