There are already plans in place to improve the rail links across Asia and Europe. Google "world railway map", you can already get from the pacific to the indian ocean and around much of Europe by train. Expanding that doesn't seem crazy

@19magic Its probably possible to cross the Bearing straight - its not very deep. Not sure if a tunnel is economical, but there are some very long train tunnels in Europe. Getting from North to South America has some tricky bits

@exitseven US freight isn't that bad. There are accidents, but I don't think its higher than in other countries. US passenger rail is a joke - and not a funny one
