Thoughts on Vietnam buying F16s the biggest sale of US fighters to Vietnam since the 70s when they bought the Mig28?

Obviously no love lost between China and Vietnam after Vietnam defeated China in battle in the late 70s. China has a long history of trying to bullying Vietnam so it makes sense that they would ally with America, Thailand, the Philippines, South Korea, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, India and others.

The US made Mig28 was quite a formidable fighter back in the day, Iran still operates them.

MIG's (Mikoyan-Gurevich aircraft) are ENTIRELY designed and manufactured in RUSSIA, and licensed to be made in China as well for the Chinese Air Force.

F-16's are manufactured in the US by General Dynamics. They are constantly improved upon and General Dynamics has made Billions selling them to supposedly friendly nations.

So your statement -'The US made MIG28' is inaccurate. The F-16 is made in the US.

on topic Vietnam the sea east of vietnam, pacific was called in a recent fiction video "south Asian sea" i loved how it is named for the region more accurately than any country name.

Surface to air missiles can't project force and because they are stationery turning their radar on makes them vulnerable to air launched hypersonic missiles. You need to intercept before they get into weapons range. If an enemy has stealth aircraft they will knock out your air defence missile systems one by one like the us airforce did in Iraq with the F117.
Vietnam is currently operating only old SU27s and SU30s. They need new aircraft and Russia can't supply them because they need them in Ukraine, China is not an option. European fighters are too expensive and spare parts are likely to be an issue which leaves the us the only game in town with thousands of stockpiled surplus f16s.

China won't. They want Taiwan intact. Russia's military weakness was exposed in Ukraine, China won't risk that. China hasn't fought a war since Vietnam name ass raped them.
