Then the economy took off and Obama said it was now his economy. Then Covid hit and Trump correctly said we should close the border to Europe and others. He was called a racist by Europe and others… until they shut their borders but it was too late for everyone. He called it the Wu Flu and said it came from the Wuhan lab. Again called racist. Now the science is pointing to the lab and shows the US government provided funding there for research including bats. He wanted masks to be optional and some said he wasn’t following the science. That tanked some numbers on Trump’s exit but he had a great economy and people remember and now that is a problem for Democrats this election… we remember.

Fixing the economy is a complex process that takes time and, unfortunately, conservatives are all about "decisive-looking", simple solutions, which are always prone to failure... but: it gives the impression that they are fixing the problem. That's what's important.
