A man in his 20s has become the first person prosecuted in Northern Ireland over comments made online, which were found to recklessly express an opinion supportive of a proscribed organisation.


In this landmark case, Ciaran Kilifin from west Belfast was sentenced at Belfast Crown Court, having pleaded guilty to the offence of support for a proscribed organisation under the Terrorism Act 2000.

The 27-year-old was sentenced to 12 months suspended for two years.

He will be subject to terrorism notification requirements for a period of 10 years.
