I have known my friend Rich since 3rd grade. We grew up together but took different career paths. I went to college and got a degree in business. I got an alright job, but nothing to get excited about. Rich screwed around. He took the first job that was offered to him as a favor from a friend. He hated it and complained every day. By his own admission, he was terrible and close to being fired a few times. He did the bare minimum and cut corners whenever possible. He was also one foot out the door always. Then a different company was in desperate need of a logistics manager, and they did not know his work ethic. All they knew was he had enough experience, and he knew all the lingo to ace the job interview. By his own admission, he conned them into believing he was something he isn't.
I was happy 4 him. I believed he would straighten up, and it would be good for him. He didn't change and was a terrible manager, his words. He would talk badly about his employees to me and curse them for doing things he would do himself. He would hide and sleep on the job or get caught up on Netflix, or take an hour of work and turn it into his whole day. Still, he complained constantly and talked about how bad the company is. He felt justified because they were terrible in his eyes. He also constantly complained about leaving.
Now, he has lucked into the same opportunity. A new company is looking for a senior logistics manager, and he fits their needs based on his experience and his LinkedIn profile, which is made entirely of lies. He was just talking about quitting and, and now he is acting like he is a prestigious senior manager. He admits that this is undeserving, but he will still expect me to make a big deal of it and take him out for a drink. I don't think he at all deserves this, and I am kind of disgusted that he keeps lucking into these promotions. But what are my options? Do I have to just pretend to be happy for him, or can I get away with just a congratulations and drop it?

Legacy admissions are when a college gives preferential treatment to applicants who have a parent or other relative who attended the same school. The idea is that the college wants to continue its relationship with families who have a connection to the school, and that this connection will help the applicant succeed. Some people see legacy admissions as unfair, since it gives an advantage to those who already have a family connection to the school.
Others argue that legacy admissions help maintain the school's traditions and culture.

Former White House adviser Stephen Miller sent a testy message to top law schools over the weekend following the Supreme Court’s decision banning colleges from using affirmative action in their admission decisions.
The Republican gadfly preemptively pestered 200 of the nation’s law school deans with the threat of legal action if they “violate, circumvent, bypass, subvert or otherwise program around” the ruling in Students for Fair Admissions cases against Harvard University and the University of North Carolina.

In its decision, the Supreme Court determined colleges cannot consider race as a factor in admissions based on the 14th Amendment’s Equal Protection Clause.
Miller, who served as a top adviser to President Donald Trump from 2017 to 2021 and is now the president of America First Legal, announced his legal plans in a smug Twitter video on Saturday.

This week, the Supreme Court declared affirmative action in college admissions unconstitutional, killed Biden’s student debt relief plan, and permitted a graphic designer in Colorado to refuse service to same-sex couples. Of course, twice-indicted former president Donald Trump wasted no time in taking credit for it all during his speech at a summit for Moms for Liberty — a right-wing, anti-government group — on Friday.

“Many presidents never get the opportunity to appoint a Supreme Court justice. I had three. They are gold,” he boasted to the crowd gathered in Philadelphia that night, referring to Justices Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett. “Maybe we’ll get three or four more. Can you imagine? Let’s have seven or eight or maybe even nine.”

While Trump continued to wail against the ongoing criminal cases against him, while also airing out his grievances about immigration and the media, the ex-president vowed to enact a series of dangerous educational policies that would target vulnerable youth and marginalized communities.

Trump also pledged to eliminate funding for schools that teach students about race and gender.
