Do men normally use emoticons in texts?

I'll make this short... I sent my ex a text Friday night asking him to set off some fireworks at the annual party (which was yesterday) in honor of the many years we had been together. He responded... ok, I will. ;)
I'm reading into the emoticon... I'm just grasping at anything because I still love this man with all of my heart. He could have ignored my text or just responded ok... ugh!!! Also, if he's dating someone, why would he respond at all? Any thoughts are appreciated. Btw... breakups SUCK!!! :(

I would never do it with another guy... but if i dont feel like my words are expressive enough i will... and i rarely ever use ones that aren't happy... unlike females... you never catch me using the pouty ones... I tend to I tend to communicate well with females and am sensitive to how they feel... because of this i am quite inclined to using emoticons...

My last EX I first started talking to in a yahoo chat room in the middle of the day, middle of the week, middle of the summer. At the time I was about 19... she was 15. Mind you, this is when yahoo chat rooms, AIM, yahoo chat and MSN chat were the shit.
I was randomly looking at girls profiles, came across hers and thought she resembled someone I knew. I messaged her, we started talking, she saw my picture and fell in love with me instantly.
Her parents thought I was some old pervert in my 40s lying to her and didn't want her talking to me... so she would sneak on and talk to me when she could. It was completely random and could have been anywhere from a few times a week for an hour or so, to as little as an hour within a week or so. We didn't meet in person until she was 20. That night we had sex and decided to try a relationship. That relationship lasted 1.5 years before I broke it off. Long story. I am 30 now, she is 25 or 26 now. I haven't talked to her in a few months but I know

she just got married last week. So we have a long history of flirt and playfulness. So for us to send faces back and forth... we wouldn't think anything of it. It's not like we do it every time we had a text session. Most of our emoticons would be sent as either flirt or teasing.

As for all of my other EXs, they don't really even mean anything to me anymore. If I talked to any of them... which I don't, I probably would only send text faces at fitting (right)/suiting times. Regardless, only one of may take it some sort of way, but the rest wouldn't think anything of it.

Well I don't contact my ex girlfriends at all. I've never gone back to anyone that I broke up with. That's a solid principle for me. If I were to use a wink in a text it fit the context of the conversation. If he just sent you a wink out of thin air, then I'd guess he misses you or he misses having sex with you and wants to start conversation up with you again.
