It all depends on the context.

If I was in a relation and that the person was caught doing something so bad that it is worth severing the relation, then of course I would want to know the reason for his behavior. Once this situation cleared, then there is no further conversation necessary.

I would just say goodbye and take care. From that point on, this person becomes a total stranger to me that I would treat no differently than anyone else. I would not address him if not needed, just like I do with all the other people that I don't have to interact with.

Once a relation is over, that person becomes a total stranger to me and does not deserve any special treatment.
