Guys, Ex boyfriend has hidden Facebook status but hasn’t his relationship status with me?

me and my ex broke up 5 days ago. We have been together on and off for 3 years and was together from August last year to 5 days ago where we had a massive argument. He broke up with me during an argument and when I let him calm down I asked him if he wanted the same things as me and he said he ‘didn’t know’ and said if I kept asking it would be a ‘no’. It then kicked off again and he said he didn’t want to be with me anymore and says we don’t want the same things and that ‘you can love someone and not be with them’.
I asked him why he hide his relationship status but not removed it and he said he ‘hadn’t got round it to it’ and ‘in that case he’ll do it later’ and it’s now 5 days and haven’t heard anything.. we normally kinda talk and sort things but i don’t want to message as I’m scared he’s definitely done and I don’t want him to think he can keep breaking up with me and making up etc. he messaged me friend saying ‘we weren’t truly happy anymore and it kills me to say but she’s better off finding someone who can give her the things I can’t’ !!

My question is- why hasn’t he just removed the status instead of hiding it and will he ever contact me? Will leaving him alone make him realise? I’ve always been one to beg but not this time…

he hasn’t deleted me off anything and literally pretending I don’t exist and everything is fine lol
