I'm starting to get put off by dating because my dad got ruined financially by his ex wife what should I do?

He got divorced in his 40s and had to pay her 40k. He struggled with money for years and he wasted a lot of years trying to catch up. Now he says he regrets getting married because he missed out getting a mortgage

It’s very important to remember that not everyone’s situation is your situation. What happened to your dad sucks but that is his experience, so why deprive yourself of connecting with someone and being with them just because things didn’t end well for your dad?

Even nerdy guys are capable of messing up, despite their reputation for being so kind, chivalrous and innocent. The stigma is what fooled me when I gave a guy like that a chance long ago lol. You just want a good person, even if he’s not what you expected, intentions are what matter most.
