Girlfriend wants time for our relationship but said she doesn't want to break up because she loves me a lot?

So, she is currently in a bad place mentally, she is having tough times at work, her dad passed away 2 years ago and still makes her very depressed which it sucks and I totally understand. Yesterday we met up for a talk and said its not fair from her to me to not treat me like I deserve it and that she can't manage a relationship right now. I asked her to be 100% honest because usually I need time means breakup, however she said she really does not want to lose me or break up because I am an incredible guy that has helped her so much and she started kissing me during the whole date, grabbing my hand showing lots of affection, even after we discussed this we started laughing and having a good time making side jokes... she said she would love to keep in touch while this break takes place. But I know I can't be there texting her or calling her unless she has the initiative.

My million dollar question is, how long should I wait though? I really really know she loves me and cares a lot, again we even kissed yesterday while we talked about the break, she was holding my hand kissing my cheeks and lips, hugging me... but because of her inner problems and emotions she can't be in a relationship right now. How should I treat this break and for how long? I do not wanna ask her a timeframe because that would be pressuring her. I also said I totally respect her decision and that I will be here to support her whenever she needs me.

I was in a similar situation last year with my current ex. We tried getting back together but she wanted to take a break. At first I was upset and told her she has two weeks to make up her mind about what she wants or I’m moving on. Then we kept talking and she seemed hurt because she knew she was going through it and me not understanding her and threatening to leave made It worse. Bare in mind I was the one who wanted to get back with her so I knew that if I pressured her into this I could lose her again but this time forever. So I took back my words and told her I will wait as long as I can. No timeframe just take as long as you need. I will be loyal and I will wait for you in the meantime. I promised to check up on her weekly to make sure she was okay and that was it. I really changed the whole scenario because not even 2 days into the break she reached out to me and things we’re kinda back to normal. She said she realized she couldn’t live without me and she would work on herself while not pushing me away. So give her space. Don’t go completely MIA and check up on her here and there. If she truly loves you she will come back after realizing what you mean to her

Yeah I never told her to think about it or tell me a timeframe, instead I said I totally respect your decision and I want to see you get better. So I guess she was surprised by my answer and maturity. How often would you recommend me checking on her though? Since she said she would still like to keep in touch. Like maybe every week?

Yeah man try once a week at first. If she sparks conversations with you that’s her basically saying I miss you and you can potentially continuously stay in touch with her. If you hardly get a response from her then just tell her you will check up on her again another day and go NC for another week. But remember, you also have to make it known that you cannot wait forever for her. Don’t say it in a mean way that would make her feel like she can lose you but casually throw it out there somehow that she isn’t being pressured to hurry up but also that you know what you want

Exactly my man, yesterday when we met and talk about it I told her see I love you but I don't know what's going to happen, life is life and I don't know if tomorrow ill be ready or if ill be single , I was straight and mature about it. She needs to know I won't be here sitting on my couch forever waiting, but I surely want to wait for her a reasonable time so I don't know maybe you think a month or two maximum?

It’s completely up to you bro. Depending on how the situation plays out during the break you’ll eventually know. Don’t fall for breadcrumbs either if you ever do decide to move on. People usually do that to not let you go but won’t take you back either. It’s happened to me. Just know your worth
