He broke up with me because he couldn't move on from his ex. He said he is not in a position to have a relationship. But I saw him hopping on dating apps to find a new relationship. And at the same time he said he likes me and it hurts him that he is hurting me but he can't date me because he feels it's not right. Still he wants me to contact him and wait for him or be patient with him. What is he trying to say? How can I read his mixed signals? Should I talk to him?

He’s not hurt that he’s hurting you, he just doesn’t want to look like an asshole and would like to keep you around as an option if he can’t find someone else.
