Someone cheating isn’t your fault, because at the end of the day he still made a choice, just as he could’ve been adamant about breaking up. What is your fault though is pushing and guilting him to stay rather than let him go. I get that he’s your first love, but it’s also not fair to be selfish and not consider what’s good for him. Hopefully you’ve let him go for good now so he can be single in peace.
