Why do I care about someone who hurt me?

We broke up over a year ago, and I can’t get over it. I wanted to marry her. I know we didn’t need to be together, but I just can’t let go. I planned my life around being with her and now the center of my world is gone.

Because invested into them sincerely. Love, sacrifice, and dreams grounded in loyalty. It hurts if this does not come to fruition. But, you should have a clear conscience…this is the only benefit from being denied proper placement or totally rejected. Your heart is not hardened dead when one hurts.-This is good.

Sorry you're going through this. I think most people experience something like this here and there in their lives. It took me about a full year once to get over somebody I cared a lot about and who hurt me too. But what helped me was resolving to move forward, which I know sounds difficult or like a broken record. But you have to. And you need to challenge yourself with new things. New goals, new objectives, even meeting new people.

I think the thing that you can't get over is not really the person, but how they hurt you. Deep down that's probably what is still nagging at your mind. Which is okay. But you can't let that hurt keep you in the past forever.

She had mental health problems, which wasn’t the main issue. A symptom of that was that she lied a lot, and was a people pleaser. She only watered the newest relationships in her life, and let the old ones die. Her new friends were her main concern and not our relationship. There were many more days where the effort was me 90% her 10% than 50-50
