I told my ex that I would stop messaging him like he's still my partner and he said 'as long as I hear from ya, nothing matters' what does that mean?

So.. Me and my ex are trying to be friends but we had an argument yesterday, that led me to getting all upset and saying some hurtful things.

Any way, today I sent him an apology saying 'I am sorry, you're not my partner any more, I shouldn't message you like you still are, I promise that from now on I will only message you straight forward messages, checking in on ya and that's it'.

His reply was "as long as I hear from ya, it doesn't matter to me, nothing else matters'.

What the hell does that mean?
