Why my ex send me happy birthday congrats?

After an entire year—or almost—, without getting in touch, she suddenly send me an email, congratulating me for my birthday. We breakup years ago and I just don't get why she would even prefer emailing me, instead of using a social media. Or why she would even send me a happy birthday message, when she pushed me away. I was always open to the idea of keeping in touch with her, but why email? Is not like I am gonna be texting her on social media. You don't even have to follow someone, to send a text to them.

Since I am not experienced with relationships—she was my first—, should I even send her a happy birthday message on her birthday? Or skip it?

Thing about social media, depending on your settings, sometimes you do actually have to be following someone and they also have to be following you back in order to message them

I already moved on, as for her I don't know. We had practically an entire year with 0 contact, then out of the bloom her message appeared.🤷. Like I said, she even said "hug" at the end of her message, but I never replied to that. Hell no.

She probably was checking if I was alive, and if I still had feelings for her—which I don't.

Which one though? Few months after we ended she started dating another guy, with who she ended a relationship. Now, I have no idea where she is standing, but who knows what she was up to🤷. She even typed: hugs*. Lol, I didn't respond to that. I just decided to be polite and give her brief respond, since her respondas were also brief.

Well, not sure what kind of person she is. My boyfriends ex is very narcissistic. She stays in contact to get validation and admiration. Narcissistic people need constant supply to fulfill their greedy insecure ego.
