It is a different way of F-you. This is negative in beginning and end as he tortures your whole Being. Soul, mind, emotion, and by default body. This is the approach of the heartless who has found a victim. The more he feels your reaction, whether you cry or laugh, the more "emotional buzz' he gets off the dynamic of "dating you."

There are better potential mates than those who engage others with this much disregard on the front end. It is not like he is hiding it.

He is just being nice. When I broke up with my ex, I knew how hurt he was so a little comfort won’t harm.
He texted me like a few times in a week and I did respond without resentment or any grudges but that doesn’t mean I want us to be back together.

I should mention that he still calls and messages me as well. Like he wanted to break up and I said I didn't want to so that was the conversation. I'm more in limbo
