What my ex told me. Does it sound truthful?

So my ex messaged me after not seeing each other for over a year. He told me he just broke up with someone. I still like him so we went out on a date and hang out several over the next two weeks. Finally I asked him where does he see us heading. He said that at this point he sees us a friends only. This was after we slept together! He said that is all he can offer now because he is recovering from his break up.

Does it make sense what he said?

Of course it makes sense, what did you expect? Like the man had just gotten out of a lengthy relationship, you didn’t know he was on the rebound? He reached out to you and who knows how many other old flames, trying to see which ones would engage or brush him off after so long. Unfortunately you still had feelings and acted on them too quickly without giving adequate time to protect your body and your heart. Being used is an absolutely shit way to learn a life lesson, but I hope you make better choices going forward. This totally could’ve been avoided.
