Depends on the cause and how the 2 involved handle and act towards the other person. I only had 2 boyfriend's the breakups went smoothly, I am still friends with the first one. I did have an unrequited love after my first boyfriend that ended on a pretty bad note, because I feel he purposely lead me on for 8 months with his lies of "love". He was really cruel to me in the end just because I wanted to end the bs and he didn't get to sleep with me. Considering he wasn't actually my boyfriend I guess it wasn't a real breakup tho it definitely hurt me immensely and took a toll on me for over a year.

Breakups are always bad because it’s the end of a love story.

mine (four of them) were all mutual and in good terms... surely does not represent the case of the general population... lol
From my experience, most breakups end in bad terms. Not all though, some end up on good terms.

I think it depends on how the couple got there.
I’ve been in a relationship that just fizzled out naturally because we didn’t see the point in playing pretend. But my ex and I ended on horrible terms. If given the opportunity to commit murder, I’d do it without second guessing myself. One out of two ended up on good terms. If I saw her getting attacked by an alligator, I'd throw a brick at it or something
Bad terms, if you are on good terms, you tend to not break up.
I’ve had previous exes text me for a friendship other than my bd but I don't know.
I would guess bad more times than good unfortunately.
I didn't remove the duct tape until they agreed it was a beneficial ending.
More on bad terms though some exes remain buds.
I would say for me, 50/50.
