Why does my ex still talk about me?

So long story short. We’ve been broken up for 6 years. Since then, he’s become a preacher, and constantly talks about me in his sermons. We’ve had no contact since the break up. But he preaches about how he wanted to marry me so bad. He even went to a mutual friend and told that person he would do anything to have me back/ make me his wife. We’ve both dated other people since the breakup and he was even engaged to someone at one point. Why won’t he stop?

That's really weird that your ex is still talking about you after all this time, even though you've both moved on. My best guess would be he still has some unresolved feelings about the breakup and you, even if he doesn't want to admit it.

Bringing it up in sermons seems like he's trying to make sense of what happened between you guys, but that's not really appropriate. And going to your mutual friend to say he'd do anything to get you back is kind of obsessive behavior after so long of no contact.

It could be he was really invested in the relationship back then and never fully got closure. But it's not fair of him to keep bringing you up all these years later when you've both dated other people. At this point it almost seems like he's using you and your history together as part of his sermons just to have something impactful to talk about.

I'd say try not to let it bother you too much. Maybe have the mutual friend tell him to stop if he mentions it again. But you've moved on so don't let him live rent free in your head! Hopefully he'll get over it at some point.

He's a sad little man who is not over you. My ex-wife was the same way. After we had been divorced for a few years, I met someone who happened to be acquainted with my ex-wife. They said "You are her ex? All she talks about is you." I found this quite funny, as I rarely thought about her and certainly didn't talk about her. We had a child so I had to handle that with her, but otherwise she was out of sight and out of mind. Living well is truly the best revenge.

He’s creating a shared experience with the masses, so that they can relate to him more and potentially even sympathize with him. But make no mistake, he doesn’t mean it. This is a public pity party every Sunday and he should be ashamed. As long as he’s not naming you and isn’t speaking negatively then I would ignore it.
