Right or wrong?

I went off on the man I have been seeing for the last six months. Just making sure I didn’t overreact.

We have been together on and off for 4 years now. He’s a few years older than me (40).

He makes plans with me then doesn’t follow through. Even more, he doesn’t even have the decency to let me know. three days later he was sick and his service was bad..

He disappears when he has his 14 year old son. His excuse is that his son uses this against him when they disagree. IE if I came over and cooked dinner and his son wants his friend to stay he would use me coming over to get his way. While is just manipulation and again.. an excuse. He shares 50/50 custody.. not just here and there.

I went off on him. I understand we all have a life, things come up and happen, and sometimes things just don’t work. But common curtesy would be to be adult and communicate. I don’t think that’s a conversation I should even have to have.

Dang girl, that really sucks that he keeps doing you like that. I can't believe he's been pulling the same stuff for so long and not changing, like blowing you off without even letting you know or making excuses after the fact. That's just straight up disrespectful after you guys have been together for years, you deserve way better than that.

I totally get that his kid has to be the top priority, but that doesn't mean he gets to just ditch plans with you last minute every time and not even shoot you a text. That's not cool at all, especially since it sounds like this has been happening a lot. And using his son as an excuse is so lame - like come on, spending time with you isn't gonna mess the kid up or anything. He needs to have better communication for sure.

I don't blame you at all for finally going off on him, he clearly needed to hear it. It's not right that you have to keep reminding a grown man to have basic respect and manners after so long together. Hopefully with you standing up for yourself he'll finally realize he needs to step up his game and find a better balance instead of always leaving you hanging. You deserve a boyfriend who makes you and your time together more of a priority. Don't feel bad - you did the right thing sticking up for yourself! I'm sure it felt good to get all that off your chest after putting up with it for so long. I hope he starts listening now and treating you better from here on out.

Absolutely his child is a priority. He doesn’t have him half the month. In those times it is unbelievable that he can’t find a few hours to make a plan and stick to it. This is like the 10th time. And if he can’t make it, it’s easy to communicate that.
