Do you think I should throw away art after break up?

This painting of me and my ex fiancé is hung on the wall at home back in my country, as my late grandpa and my other family members painted it together for me as a present based on our photo, which is a copy of our photo just created as a painting. I am already in love with someone else, my family just sees this painting as an art and they think that it’s just art and painting depicting love, not my ex, but a very pure and beautiful art showing me and my first love and they want to keep this photo… I wouldn’t want my man to ever feel like my family still wants my ex, as they don’t and they just want to treasure it as art… So would you mind if I had it at home especially that my late grandpa helped us paint it and it was kind of a result of family bonding art session? It’s more about me, than my ex, which is just a character in this painting.

1. From your perspective, everything that has happened to you in your past has combined to mold you into the person you are now. You should not dwell on your past, but you also should not forget your past.

2. From your current partner's perspective, you have a painting of you with your ex, but not of you and your current partner. Why is that? This potentially creates problems for the current partner.

I would suggest that you keep the painting but have it in storage and not displayed, or give it to another family member to maintain.

I don't know I'd probably toss it since why would I want to remember my ex every time I see that shit at my parents house lol. But I also don't hold deep feelings in items or photos.. so its up to you since I don't think your boyfriend would care anyways.

It is art. It represents people who were in love at some point, even though they no longer are (that doesn't even matter, it is irrelevant). I don't think you should throw it away.

This is tough, in the now, burn it!, However, it does represent a point in time, in your life. A lot of effort went into making it for you, you. Not him. If you can move on in your life and see it for what it can be. Maybe put away for a while, as suggested below, then re-visit the subject later and see where your thoughts lie. You might be surprised?

I'd let them have it. I wouldn't see it as a big deal. If it was in your place and a new partner would constantly have to see it then maybe it would be more of an issue but if it's at your familys house I think it's fine.

I wouldn't mind or care, especially if you explained that your family spent time painting it and just didn't wanna get rid of it.. I would understand.. And just tell you, that they could do us next.. Lol..
