I had 2 big breakups in my life. One was by a girl I really fell hard and fast for. She dumped me in a very cruel way and went back to her old boyfriend from high school. I really thought my life was over.

The other was a girl I met in college and we both had to transfer to different schools. We had a long distance relationship for over 3 years. This was before email and cell phones. Long distance phone calls were very expensive and a plane ticket was so expensive that we only saw each other once or twice a year. I decided that I no longer wanted to do this anymore. I really did not see an end game where we would be together. It took ma a couple of months to finally call her on the phone after 11 pm when the rates went down. I broke up with her over the phone. She thought that we should just get married. I was not finished with school yet and I did not want to spend my life working a string of minimum wage jobs. The last thing we said to each other was "I love you".

Afterwards I thought maybe I made a big mistake.
