Try as hard as you can to keep your mind occupied. Distracting yourself with even the dumbest things keeps your mind from dwelling on it. It's inevitable you'll think about it. It only takes a few seconds for it to seep into your brain. Try not to think about not thinking about it. It only makes it worse. If you have someone to be around, be around them and hopefully they know the right amount to talk about it and the right amount to distract you from it. It ultimately just takes time to wait for it to fade away.

I broke up with my last boyfriend and I know I made the right choice but it doesn't stop it from hurting. I think about it every day still. I get teary about it a lot still. Some days I think I'm getting better and the next day is worse. But I don't have many people to be around right now. I try to waste time on here some days. I try to play mindnumbingly stupid games on my phone to distract myself when I'm not at work. It doesn't stop it from working its way into my brain but it cuts down on the time I think about him and all the time I wasted with him when it wasn't going to go anywhere.
