Focus on why it ended. Sometimes looking back you can romanticize the good times and it makes you feel better to dwell on those than the bad, but the reminder of the bad and why it didn't work is a good place to start. Then you can think about whether that has been fixed since then, or if it ever could be. More often than not, it can't and you end up with the same result.
