He doesn't plan to get back with you (atleast that's not the objective of texting you). He just wants to know what have you been up to i.e. did you get a boyfriend? do you feel miserable without him? Did your life collapse after you broke up? etc...
The majority of ex's do that because they hate to be replaced even if he doesn't intend to get back with you. It has something to do with their ego and selfishness. All what he is looking for is an ego boost from you. Are you willing to give him that?
