What does it mean when a guy says you're sweet?

I've been casually sleeping with this guy for 8 months. We've continued to see each other cause of the amazing sex, obviously lol. The other night when he came over we got a bit tipsy and when we were cuddling after hooking up he randomly said I'm sweet. I responded with "I haven't been sweet enough" (so he knows there's more to me, lol). He also mentionned for about the 3rd time now how I think everything flirty he says is "dirty". And I'm like well that's what it's always been and he's like yeah I know.. I like him and everything but it's been 8 months and he's finally admitted to us being friends (finally, a step up from f-buddy) and that I should trust him more. It feels like he's never going to ask me out, and now it's getting hard to tell if he likes me for a girlfriend or if I'm just gonna be a friends with benefits an thats it. And I don't want to ruin a good thing, I love spending time with him. Any advice?
