Are nerdy girls ever attracted to athletic jock-type guys?

I'm a jock, not the typical dumb bro-ed out jock, but a jock nonetheless. The girls I've mostly dated have been popular girls and cheerleader types, i. e. who you'd expect a jock to date. I met a girl in one of my classess who's very smart but kinda shy and socially awkward. I really like her, but I thought we'd be incompatible until I *think* I caught her trying to flirt with me recently. She made a comment about me spending too much time working out, and right then she grabbed my arm and felt it. That made me think that maybe she's into me after all. Could this be a potential match? I thought nerdy girls always looked down on jocks and preferred to date nerdy guys.

Yep. I'm pretty nerdy and I'd go for a more jock type, as long as he understood our interests were different. Mind you, I am somewhat into fitness myself (I work out) but the rest of my interests are more nerdy, so I am more accepting of it. I don't expect a person to like everything I do: just don't write it off.

Why would your interests necessarily be different? I have many esoteric pursuits myself even though I enjoy being physical.

Not all nerdy girls looked down on jocks. She might not be TOTALLY nerdy for all you know like how she thought you are ONLY into cheerleaders. Who knows, you might have common interests or opposites can also be a good thing (opposites compliments each other). so try to approach her (since she is shy) ;)

Hey well im not a full on nerdy person but i am a shy girl and i can tell you how i feel. I had a jock get at me and i was shy. truth be told i always like him i just didn't know how to approach him. anyways he was so sweet and nice. i was always attracted to him because he was a hot jock however i never approached him because i didn't think he would like me. I wasn't popular, i didn't dress very nice, i never went to any parties i was just a normal, shy very casual girl. To be honest i dont think most nerdy girls look down on jocks, we just dont like the negative steretypes of ullying that comes with it. especially because we know what its like to get bullied. try being nice maybe shell open up about it

My long-time high school boyfriend was a track athlete who rode a century on his bike every weekend. I was the bookish brainiac who didn't own a bike when I started dating him. We were a tight couple for a year and a half and are still friends now.
