Ok, so, I am a college student and there is this guy I like and would like to talk to (I don't really know him yet though). I am a mostly black female (although I look racially ambiguous) and he is black as well. However he surrounds himself with mainly white females. In fact, a lot of the black guys on my university campus do. It gives me the impression that he is only attracted to white females and makes me nervous to approach him. I have absolutely no problem with him having white female friends (I'm not racist of prejudice). I just want to know if this is just the norm. These days. (Again I have no problem with choice in association). Also, should I approach this guy knowing the circumstances?

There are a few facts you should understand.

WOMEN Topic:
1. Every race is prone to certain physical attributes and features. For example, Asian women often look young. Hell, the majority of Asian women who are 40 look 18yrs old. That type of attribute is going to make them "The chosen ones" for men.
It just so happens that white women are prone to a lot more positive physically tasteful features.
So that being said, white women will get a lot of the attention.

2. One of the common personality traits of most black women in dominance. It's less common that black women are submissive. Dominence individuals are only attracted to submissive people. This is why when there are gay couples one is always feminine and the other is masculine. If you ever see two girly girls together you know it's a bogus relationship and just some teenage trend. Anyway, like I said. A lot of black women are tough, strong, and intimidating. This also includes body features too. Since most men are dominant they are going to stray away from black women.

MEN topic:
1. A lot of woman have fallen under the whole "It's cool to be black", a black guy is a "bad boy" and a "dark secret sexy experience in my diary". White women tend to go for black guys generally just for the thrill of it. It's unfortunately that there are so many shallow women out there but it's true.
99% of white women and black guys in a relationship started off and is completely based on "He's black, that's awesome".

2. There is, of course, that large penis thing too. Obviously women don't really want pain and to have a horrible time during sex where every time they go to do it they have to go through 30 minutes of warming up to smaller objects. Still, they that urge to push the envelope to see how far they can go.

I think your paying attention to too many factors that are out of your control. You like him, great now does he know you, is he in your classes, or a mutual friend of yours... go from there. Don't talk yourself out of something that could potentially be the most gratifying experience that you may miss out on. Positive thinking sista'girl!!! If he isn't into you then no big deal there's another guy out there who I am willing to bet money on is going through the same exact thing as you that wants to get to know you. People sometimes gravitate towards the opposite out of unconscious rebellion against the "norm"(AKA White men+white women/black men+black women/etc). Others go against the grain because of social factors. Today for example, there's some irritation at the fact that black men are portrayed with white women on television and how black women are degraded in some ways. And lastly, some people like the opposite because of their own personally preferences.

Bottom line... don't give up because of what you think might be true. The guy just MIGHT have a preference for white girls, but maybe not strictly. My Dad for example prefers tall dark-skin women, however he's been with a shorter light-skinned women for the past 11 years. This same woman (my stepmother) prefers tall light skinned basket ball players, and my Dad is short, dark-skinned, and a nerd. They both have their own preferences, but something about one another clicked between them. The same could happen for you and this guy.

Talk to him. Get to know him. Pursue a friendship with him and he might fall for you regardless if you're his type or not. :)

However, if you are above average for a black woman, then it shouldn't matter. Many black women have started fraudulently calling themselves "mixed" in order to up their response rate. If you really are mixed, you have that advantage without fraud.

As far as what races people date, it tends to have to do more with numbers and socio-economic status more than anything else. It is who they happen to meet.
