Why would a guy lie about having a gf?

At work this guy and I were really tight a month ago and even dabbled a bit but nothing crazy just a date and what not. But he randomly started becoming distant and he promised me while we were "talking" that whatever happens hed tell me straight up what was going down. Well i find out he has a girlfriend because everyone at work talks about it. Also he once texted me that he was at his girls house but tells me later that day his friend took his phone and wrote that as a joke. But I knew he was lying. And I've even seen the girl a few times so. I've called him out on it several times and I truly dont care he has a girlfriend but he continues to hide it from only me which is sort of annoying, everyone else knows an hangs out with her. So I was wondering why he would lie just to me?

any guy who lies about having a girlfriend more likely wants to cheat on her. There is no reason for a guy in a committed relationship to be doing the things he is. Just know he doesn't have real interest in you. He more and likely wants to use you as a catalyst for his escape.

He probably thinks that you would get jealous or not talk to him because of it. Really he shouldn't be talking to you like that if he has a girlfriend. Unless she is like really comfortable with it.

Stay away from him. If he's trying to get with you and lie behind her back he'd do the same to you.
