I don't need my guy to be "tough", but those are the guys who usually have other qualities that I also look for in a man - can handle conflict in a firm but peaceful manner, stands up for himself, doesn't seek validation, doesn't ask for approval on everything, can make decisions without my help, etc. That softer side is pretty much mandatory :P
