Why are metalheads so homophobic?

They like to refer to any type of music genre they don't like as "gay", especially Electronic Dance Music which metalheads call "gay techno" because "techno" was allegedly the type of music played in gay clubs in the 90s or something.

Even still I don't care if gay people listen to a certain type of music or if a certain type of music is associated with gay people it's no big deal to me, I don't see sexual orientation in inanimate things nor do I label anything that I don't like "gay".

I still don't understand the logic behind calling something you don't like gay other than homophobia.

They're not. The word "gay" was used to describe things you don't like and thats bad and all since it came from not liking gays but people who use it now don't associate the word with the people its just another word.

My brother used to use it a lot playing video games and my girlfriend got offended and was like How can you let him do that? It doesn't bother me since I know he doesn't think that that thing is gay as in homosexual... but I told him to stop anyway

I don't know I just think people get offended a lot in this day and age. As long as they don't out right be homophobic to me like yell at me and my girlfriend that we're going to hell when we hold hands on the street (yes that has happened) I just think there are worst things to worry about that out dated insults..

Then so what if it is actually gay... it doesn't mater if they call it gay. I suppose its more offensive if the people take it as an insult

Though I have met people from all walks of life who refer to things they find annoying as "gay", including homosexuals, I have never met a metalhead who was homophobic. I'm sure they exist, but overall, as a community, I have found metalheads to be some of the most openminded and easygoing people I have ever met. Hell, some of the most influential people in metal we're and are homosexuals. Try to find a metalhead who doesn't appreciate Judas Priest. You can't.
Every group has it's assholes though and it sounds like you've run into a few of them. They are not a reflection of the whole group though and should not be taken seriously.

Yeah so open minded that they/you think EDM is "untalented crap" and "not real music". Tell me do open minded people say "they just press play" and "it's just noise made with a computer not real music because real music is made with instruments hurr durr"?

Also I don't want to even be near any metalhead, I don't like people who hate EDM.

Don't put words in my mouth, you don't know anything about me. I have friends who love EDM and I have no problem going to raves and clubs with them. Regardless of my personal opinions on musicianship.
If you are willing to disparage a whole group of people for the actions of a few and reject others because they don't like the same music as you then you are just as bad as the people you dislike.

I don't care if I am as bad as them. I've suffered enough abuse online at the hands of metalheads all because I said I like EDM.

Seriously? Online abuse? Most of them are probably trolls, and you don't even have to talk with them anyway.
For the record, I spent 3 years producing trip-hop and industrial techno. 99% of EDM is shit. There's no talent or actual work involved whatsoever. And you know what? I played and produced punk and black metal music for about 5 years before that. 99% of metal and punk is ALSO SHIT. Most music is shit. Get over yourself and don't get so butthurt when people don't agree with you on the internet.
