Why is he not clingy anymore?

A guy who I was dating for short time just recently pulled back from being clingy, why? He was obsessed with me then I kinda was pulling back from him secretly but he told me we need to cut ties because I’m the clingy one but I was just following his energy.

Maybe he was just trying to give you what he thought you wanted/needed... given that you were responding positively...

Explaining the situation may make it seem a little desperate in my opinion, so whilst i usially say honesty is the best policy, in this case, i'd just say 'ok - thats cool, i thought thats what you wanted'. You may surprise him into a reaction that you then desire...
