Is it weird for a freshman to date upperclassmen?

I'm a freshman and I've never dated before but a lot of the guys I like are older than me and I don't really see anything wrong with that. My friends all think it's weird to date a junior or senior and say dating a senior is illegal cuz they're (mostly) 18. The way I see it, there's only a 3-4 year difference so it's ok but what does an upperclassman think about freshmen? Do I have any chance or is it a total turnoff?

the problem is that unless the senior in question is a little bit behind his age group in dating experience (like he has none) he’s not going to be interested in a “freshman” paced dating life. He’s going to want and expect things to move at the pace things would normally move for his age. If it’s not going to, it would be much for satisfying for him to date someone his own age more ready for that.

which basically pushes you to behave like you’re older than you are, while probably not actually knowing what’s reasonable and in a scenario that above and beyond whether it’s what you want, is also potentially illegal depending on where you live.

well if y'all are both still in school, I've heard somewhere that if y'all were dating before someone turns 18, the law can't do anything about it, now when it comes to sexual activities I don't know

As long as you are just dating and not being intimate, there is nothing illegal to date an older guy. You can date a 70 year old man without it being illegal.

Where it becomes an issue is if you, as a child are intimate with an adult. I say a child because the definition of a child according to the United Nations, is a person that has not yet reached his/her 18th. birthday, which is your case.

I would be extremely cautious in your case and to ensure that you do not get intimate with an adult as you are possibly exposing him to a sexual offense that can get him a criminal record.

As long as it's legal. You're good. Don't go based off of what grade you're in. Age is what matters.

Dating a senior is not legal. Having sex with them is since you haven't reached the age of consent
