Is it possible to offend a girl or hurt her feelings by telling her I like her?

One of my biggest fears in dating is that I will unwittingly hurt someone by getting romantically involved. Is there somehow a way of hurting someone by telling them I'm interested?

Possibly. If you and a girl developed a friendship and you tell her you have feelings, it may give her the impression that the friendship you cultivated was actually to become romantic. So it was never genuine.

Why do people see friendship and romantic attraction as mutulally exclusive? Isn't it possible I want her because she makes a good genuine friend?

I don't think that. Every good relationship is founded on the qualities of a good friendship. However, some just want the friendship. And you could imagine how she might feel if she thought you wanted to be around her because she was a good friend only to find out that you secretly wanted more. I'm not saying that is the case it's a hypothetical situation that could explain why someone might be offended by expressing romantic interests.

No not at all expect to get rejected or not have the answer you want but girls love a guy like that. Good guys are hard to find and there will always be a girl who will not feel that way
