Don't small talk. Try to continue being funny and charming, but also try to make sure you have some big-talk communication, that is the sort of thing that will build real connections and make your really stand out in someone's life. A great example of this was this study that was done that showed researchers could get singles on a date to fall in love by prompting them to ask each other 36 questions (a few easy icebreakers, but mostly questions leading to deep topics).
