To DTR or to Friendzone what's the best approach?

I've been chatting with this guy (24 yo.) over text for about 6 months, been on two dates, and we were constantly flirting. He is back in my hometown and I (21 yo.) am in another state for school and work. I admitted my feelings for him over text recently and he's slowly backed off but came back around and we're chatting again like it used to be. I don't want to create more overthinking scenarios for myself about what is happening and where this is going, so I am unsure about whether asking his opinion on the track that this "situationship" is going or to simply friendzone him. I initially knew he had feelings for me, but now with overthinking I am not sure. tyia

That's always a problem when you confess your feelings and you are not 100% that they are reciprocated.

He slowly backed up and that means that he needed time to think the entire situation. Even though he is slowly coming back, that does not mean that there is something between you. He may have felt cornered and now he is making a slow approach in the hope that you got the message.

In this case, it is better to friendzone the person unless he shows clear signs that he wants more than just a casual friendship and texting. Give him a few weeks and if nothing happens, move on.
