2.6K opinions shared on Dating topic. People confuse infatuation with love. They want so much to be in love. They have storybook fantasies of happily every after.
Infatuation is the most wonderful feeling. Its the feeling we associate with love. It's when you project all your desires onto the other person. You think they are the most perfect creature who ever lived.
But as two people are together long enough to see each other with their guards down and witness their quirks, habits, faults, lifestyles, the way they treat others, etc., they begin to see them as human beings rather than gods. Infatuation gradually fades. It's only then that they can be sure if they truly love and trust them completely.
Infatuation is like a blazing bonfire. Love is like the warm, smoldering embers that remain.
Honestly, I doubt if you can know if you actually love someone after three months. You're still in the honeymoon phase of your relationship. Enjoy it.00 Reply

+1 yIf you honestly feel it say it. There is nothing wrong with telling someone that. I have said that before really early in a relationship. It shocked her but it showed her that I was not fake. Granted it didn't last long but that's life.
The one person that I didn't tell how they made me feel and such I will never get to. They never knew what them just talking to me did. I could be having a shit day every thing has and is on the free fall to hell. She would just say hello and I have to get going. What ever was going on was gone and all was good in my world. I wish that I had told her and not have been scared of what any one thought. But being 32 and she was barely 18 there was that. If just me saying something to her would have prevented her suicide because she thought no one liked her would have saved her life I should have done it.00 Reply
+1 yI say it depends if you actually feel it or are just saying it. For me and my boyfriend it was within 3 months and we’ve been together for 6 and it’s just getting more serious. For another couple it could be a year or two

For me and my boyfriend personally yes that doesn’t mean all tho
Anonymous(36-45)+1 yI think it's a little too early based on your responses below. People asked if you love him, and you responded "I think so." In my opinion, if you're not SURE, it's too early to say it.

+1 yNot necessarily. It depends on how it's going. I usually go for 6 months to a year. You should've met their friends and maybe some family members already though. In general though, I won't marry anyone before 3-5 years and intend to have kids with them to be sure it can survive past new relationship energy which biologically lasts up to 2 years.

+1 yThere is no rule on that one! You have to just follow your instincts and how the relationship is feeling. I assume you two have been having a committed relationship together with no dating outside of the relationship.
By the time you start being intimate you really need to be able to share your inner feelings with that person. Otherwise you will develop trust issues, and that never end well.
Best of luck! Hope you are able to share what it is you are feeling.00 Reply
+1 yDepends on how you define it and wether you believe in 'the one true love' or if it's just an emotion. I think the latter; that it's an extreme emotional state.
As such it's Okay to say it whenever because it only conveys what you feel. Not that.. 'we should get married, start a family and be together forever'.00 Reply
Anonymous(36-45)+1 yMy girlfriend said it to me in less than a month. We've been together almost two years and I plan to marry her someday. I think the timing is far less important than the genuineness of the feeling. If you really feel it, say it without tying yourself to the idea that a specified amount of time must first pass before it's okay.

+1 yNot if you have been spending time learning about each other and are ready to commit on some level. I think people could fall in love in a day if they were compatible and communicated effectively their needs and desires. Long term, its how well the two of you can come to intelligent compromises when you disagree. Intelligence makes it much easier to fall in love and stay in love!
00 ReplyToo early, because in your other post, i read "I think so" about being in love with him, which shows disbelief & confusion. It's a temporary spark that will fade away before you even know it.

+1 yNot at all if that’s how you feel then be honest with him. I fell in love with my wife the second I laid eyes on her I didn’t say anything for a while but ours was a little bit of a crazy situation

+1 yNo never. I fell in love with a girl and after 3 months I told her I am in love with her. She just used me for emotions and dumped me not once but twice and twice she went with different guys.
