I think the easiest way to maximize your odds of meeting a nice one is to make some time between the two to socialize and make connections.

I even think bar-hopping is a nice way to start making connections lacking a better idea. I met my wife through a bar. To be clear, I didn't meet her in a bar (I met her at a picnic). But I made a guy friend at a bar, who then introduced me to his friends and acquaintances, and some of those acquaintances introduced me to their friends, and so forth, and ultimately I was invited to a picnic where I met my now-wife.

Besides potentially finding a nice girl, this way of socializing and networking gives you a way to have lots of fun and avoid feeling lonely hanging out with people at barbecues, birthdays, weddings, picnics, etc.
