Have you ever been grateful when somebody rejected you?

Question

There were three guys who rejected me when I was a university student. Fast forward, 12 years later,

One guy is disabled, bitter and jealous, stingy and dishonest, shallow and mentally ill

Another guy is morbidly obese, looks disabled in photographs and is balding with white hair even though he’s only 44 years old

And another guy flunked out of college when I was one the best students in my entire grade

Oh yes... There have been a few times when I got these really abrupt, shitty, unpleasant rejections from women who I realized in the years since were actually incredibly awful, vapid, mean people.

The biggest lesson I learned from dating is that people will ALWAYS tell you who they are, and you should believe them. People become the people they become for a reason. They create the vast majority of their own problems, they live self destructive lives and they take their frustrations about being ineffective out on other people.

there a saying i hear one that has help me so many times that i wish i could give back the people that come up with it and it's this get up and go on with your life it alright to be down for a moment , cry do whatever u have to but dont stay there to long get up and go on with ur life that what i learn with all these years on this earth if someone want walk out of ur life let them go special if u know you've done everything u could be the best man or woman and they still want go then let theeemmm goooo whatever they run after they see what they had in a minute but by then it going be to late half of the people u setting around for cry for worry about 2 to three years from now ain't even going to remember they last name how many times have u see someone and was like what the hell was i thinking what was wrong with me some come in ur life for a lifetime some for other reasons you get to know with is with your go allwas mess up but it about get up it about how hard u can get hit about how much u can take the point to this is I've seen to many times people trap them self in a love trap that ain't love but bars around ur self when the other ain't worth a damn so the point im try to say is it okay to let go and it okay to be happy even if ur hurt like hell now

In college I worked retail, and a customer started chatting with me and during the course of the conversation, she asked me if I had a boyfriend, and when I said no, she became incredibly insistent that I meet her son. She wanted him to meet a nice girl, and apparently I fit that bill based on 10 minutes of conversation, so she basically just called him without my permission and thrust the phone in my face while I was still working. He seemed chill on the phone, but the mom was like, oh, and he's nearby, he can come and meet you (literally I'm like, lady, I'm at work!!!). This guy  actually  comes to the store like 10 minutes later. Upon meeting me, no kidding, he gives me the once over, and tells me, "oh on the phone you sounded like (insert different race), but you're clearly not, so I'm not interested." Then literally stops looking at me or talking to me. I've never been so glad to be rejected by someone in my life!!!!! I think his mom was incredibly embarrassed by his behavior because I never saw either of them again.

I haven’t checked up on the long time girls who rejected me with one exception. I do know one girl who married a military pilot and likely became a full time house maker (despite being well educated). Not sure how I feel about that.

However there was one girl who treated me like complete shit in the friéndzone back in HS. I mean she was constantly complaining and bitching about her ex boyfriend and milking free favors and counseling out of me.

Back then I was very naive and didn’t understand the friéndzone exploitation dynamic (there wasn’t even a word for it). However I remember that despite her having a very pretty face she also had a body type that was prone to be heavy. However she was only 16 at the time and her young body could get away with it. However if I saw her today I bet a 100 bucks she is most likely overweight or even obese. Her mom was big as a house and genetically she’s screwed.

If I ran into her I would just laugh my ass off and walk away. Im in excellent shape and I make good money. I still got all my hair too.

It seems like we are all just so programmed to feel either embarrassed or sad when something like that happens. There have been many times where I am grateful that that's happened I have friends that are girls that it has happened to you and I've always told them there's a reason don't worry about it and sure enough they will get back ahold of me and said you know that guy that rejecting me well guess what and then they'll tell me something and they'll say I'm so glad he said no

Not quite rejection in your sense, but I am happy that my ex broke up with me. Our relationship was extremely toxic. I feel like I wouldn’t have broken away from it unless it ended like it did because toxic situations tend to make you feel trapped. I am now twice as happy with someone else.

100%. I look back on the men I went after and I am unbelievably grateful they turned away from me because they were either drug addicts, unstable musicians or just psychotic in some sense (anger management issues). I went through a period between 18-23 where I desired very toxic and unstable men.. almost like I wanted to create pain for myself? Thankfully, now at 26 I don’t seek such men (: (especially after being burned once I am not tapped out from such men).

Yes, this boy I knew in high school. I liked him a lot, but one day when we were delivering sodas to his neighbors house we had to stand out their for two hours before his neighboor answered the door.

They talked a bit in Spanish and as we walked back the boy had to explain to me that she wouldn’t answer the door for us because of my skin color. He told me that she’s a kind person and that she just had some bad experiences with black people.

but looking back I don’t even know how I could be attracted to someone like that.

Yes, I have. This happened all the way back in middle school. So, when I was in 7th grade, my friends and I were playing Truth or Dare. I picked dare. I got dared to ask my crush if he would be my boyfriend. Even though I did like him, I didn't really want to be in a relationship with him. So I was grateful when he rejected me.

A very debatable question. I would definitely be very hurt if this happened to me. We all want acceptance and are afraid of being rejected. But then, if I knew what happened to these people or what they were like, I would be relieved (and maybe grateful). Everything that is done is done for the best.

Yeah, a guy who quickly found a new girl. I was still friends with her on facebook and she shared a questionnaire on his exam project on the design of drains :D. I laughed very hard of him doing such a boring project. Though, more grateful like a year later when he texted me out of nowhere, trying to hook up with me.. felt good to be totally over him then and reject this time, plus I found out he was still in a relationship, so he wanted to cheat on his girlfriend.
