+1 yI'll answer this in the reverse considering I lean right. I would. I don't define people by their political affiliation. I email my grandfather everyday who's a big democrat. He's a former Marine just like me, and he's also an engineer just like me. He's also a lot smarter than I am. We talk about so much going on in the world, and I would consider him a friend. Even at my church, I've met a ton of great people who are on the opposing side.
I leaned left my entire life until I started studying economics. I actually became so intrigued in economics, and how money works that I decided to switch career paths. I first noticed the massive wealth gap, and an increase in homelessness upon covid 19. I became much wealthier during the pandemic, and saw others go in the opposite direction. That really put something in my heart to say something is wrong here. I saw democratic fiscal decisions are not working very well. I saw the blind ignorance or deliberate misinformation spewed from democratic leaders. I saw that there's actually a lot more to what they're saying. I then became extremely mad at the democratic party in which I had supported for so long because they mislead me and played on my emotions for so many years. I'm more of the Austrian economic structure rather than the Keynesian structure. Conservatives lean more towards the Austrian style of economics which I believe empowers everyone.
Something else that drove me away from the left was the bigotry I witnessed. It's no longer this way or that way, but rather the good way or evil way. In reality, that's just not the case. 5+5=10, and so does 8+2. The inability to recognize the other side really put me off. Discussions became emotionally driven rather than logically driven. Instead of fighting for economic equality in a way that makes rational and logical sense, it become a social justice war and painting the other side out to be comprised of racists. They play on emotions. Even Malcom X said this. Nobody likes a racist. If you convince America that conservatives are all racist, then of course it will keep you away from them so that you don't see they might have valid points. It's a play on emotions. I couldn't stand this agenda being pushed so hard. I realized the MAGA crowd was a bit nicer and more open minded and was shocked by it.
I think people in general grow so much when they date someone who's different than them. I think you'd really benefit from turning off the partiality, and rather try to find middle ground with others who oppose you. Creating an echo-chamber mentally will really close off ones mind.00 Reply

I'm not one or the other. depending on the issues I could fall under either category. I've chosen to basically go A Political. I'm so tired of all the goddamn politics. I'm living a spiritual lifestyle of inner harmony and peace and got no time for the bickering anymore. If you aren't trying to shove something at me or burn down a building we can have a conversation. Even if we dont agree on everything I'm not gonna REEEE on you over something we disagree on. Life's too short for politics to affect my individual life like that. Cast the vote, be done with it. I only ever speak out or openly support humanitarian aid in global hotspots, or for the homeless, or animals.

+1 yThe older I get the more conservative I realize that I am lol
I'm just right of center on that political spectrum so I am by no means extremely conservative or anything.
In the 2016 election my husband (then fiance) and I voted differently. Obviously we stayed together and got married. He was fairly liberal until he got a job that involved paying taxes lmao
He was so pumped for "all the money" he was going to make and I told him to multiply his gross amount by.7 and that'd be about what his take home pay would be and let me tell you, that man flipped political leanings immediately 😂
I was explaining taxes and what taxes go on to fund and the man was shook.
We lived in uber liberal Atlanta, Georgia for 3 years right after we got married. He and I thought we were pretty liberal as compared to our parents/hometown, but we are EXTREMELY conservative as compared to Atlanta.
That was a long answer and I got off topic, but the answe is: it depends how far left they are.02 Reply- +1 y
Well, there is a reason why the ultra poor and the ultra rich are the ones who vote the democrats while people in the middle class hate them.
The moment people realise how expensive taxes are and that they want to be rewarded for their own work is the moment they do not want to deal with that crap. Not even to do with conservative, but with having the freedom to do with your own money what you want to do with it instead of government taking it away from you. - +1 y
Rich people did not get rich by paying taxes you would be a fool to believe that. Taxes are there to stop other people from getting rich and succeeding
I can only tolerate but not date someone with opposing views than I as I, personally, need to have an emotional connection in a relationship. In this case, conversations vital to building this connection would be derailed with arguments trying to correct each other. Thus, the very connection crucial to enter into a relationship with someone holding opposite political views to myself wouldn't be nurtured. The best outlook where an association is unavoidable involves active repression of one's own views in favour of neutral topics and plenty of kind gestures such as giving gifts and compliments.

+1 yI'm kind of middle ground/not political, but my personal beliefs align me more on the liberal/left side. From where I am on the spectrum, I can see myself dating anyone within a certain range from where I am, though how active and political they are would have some influence on my decision as well.
My theory is not many people would want to date someone too different from them. Let's say there is a spectrum from 10 Left to 10 Right. and right in the middle is Zero.
I'm guessing wherever someone is on the spectrum I just made up, they won't be too keen on dating anyone more than 5 spaces from where they are. Me for example, I would place myself at about 2 Left. I would be uncomfortable dating someone further left than 7 Left or further right than 4 Right.

I feel less steadfast in that, now, but its still a yes. Just a less passionate yes. For a long time, before political tension got so heated, I genuinely didn't mind dating a liberal girl at all. While I dislike saying it, I've begun finding that quality of a girl being conservative as attractive. I wish it wasn't so, I wish it was irrelevant. But that's simply how I feel, now. But I don't want to overstate anything, I'm not opposed to dating liberal women.
20 ReplyPolitics should not get in the middle of a relationship but if you are such an extremist that you cannot handle someone else's opinion being different.
Then perhaps you should not date.
In life you live and you learn.
Rather than just discounting someone else's opinion perhaps you should get to know the person and find out why they have such an opinion.
You may even find that your opinions are similar as long as you're not too judgmental to the point where you're not open-minded enough to examine why their opinion is the way it is.
Politics and religion are the two worst things to bring into a relationship because people tend to be too damn judgmental and half the time don't even know what their political parties agendas really are00 Reply361 opinions shared on Dating topic. In today's culture, a damn large chunk of democrats have become cultists, taking their every thought about how society should work from someone in New York in front of a TV camera, or some politician who has never had an actual job in their life. Drinking the Kool Aid becomes less of a metaphor with each passing day.
So no, I don't think it's really a good idea, any more than it would be to invite a Scientologist or an arsonist into your inner circle. Just not that much upside, and too much downside.00 Reply- 3.9K opinions shared on Dating topic.
+1 yMy answer is "maybe", and that all depends on just "how conservative" the girl is. If she's a Trumpanzee, forget it. If she thinks Jan. 6th was just an ordinary tourist day at the Capitol, absolutely not. But if she can discern truth from lies, and fact from fiction, then we have a shot.
I consider myself a moderate leaning "liberal", not a Democrat, because they're too far left. I say that mostly because the term "conservative" has become synonymous with "Republican" now in the USA, which is sad, because most of the Republican leaders are fucking crazy. I've voted for Republicans before, but haven't been able to do that since 2006 when I voted for Olympia Snow for Senator in Maine.00 Reply I am one of the most Liberal Feminists you'll ever meet, Im actually married to a Republican man and I love him more than anything, he does support Pro-Choice, but thats about it. We dont talk about our political views with eachother and its worked out really well for us.

Sorry didn't mean for it to be rude just being honest that it sounds like a recipe for disaster. But hey if you think you can make a relationship work without communication then all the more power to you! It definitely would be very impressive!
- +1 y
If you can't even talk to each other about your values whats the point?
Nope.. specially if the 2 are under 40 where their politics seem enough to be the measure of people's character. We as a population seem to be maturing slower.
And considering that most of the females lean Liberal and the vast number of males lean Conservative.. I fore-see less population growth for the next generation.00 Reply- 3.5K opinions shared on Dating topic.
+1 yOpposites attract. Of course you can date someone with different political views from you. You can even have long-term relationships with them.
My SO and I have very different opinions on some political topics, and sometimes argue over them. That doesn't change the fact that we've been together for several years and plan on continuing that.00 Reply 400 opinions shared on Dating topic. +1 ydefinitely not. why would i be friends or date someone who actively is trying to take my rights away and the other way around? i just think there’s lots of reasons why it’s not a good idea even if they aren’t into politics as much.
06 Reply- +1 y
But you got it wrong. Neither of you are trying to take each other's rights away. The TV has brainwashed you both into having strong views about things and fighting with each other. Put that nonsense aside.
- +1 y
@NoMorePoliticsPlease i disagree and the question was about my opinion so there’s no point of your comment. and why unfollow me if you think i’m so brainwashed.
- +1 y
It was not an insult. I was brainwashed by that garbage for a long time too it doesn't mean you don't have value as a person.
- +1 y
@NoMorePoliticsPlease i do consider it an insult because i understand my government and the games it plays as well as the importance of media enough to answer the original question so sell it to someone else.
- +1 y
You are not wrong the government are the bad guys but not just the side that you think. Both sides. The Democrats and the Republicans it is all staged fake BS.
- +1 y
@NoMorePoliticsPlease i truly do not care what you believe to be true and you can pretend to think you’re higher cause you don’t like politics (yet you don’t shut up about them for someone who hates it) but you’re not. plus we’re just going back in forth so if you can stop being a nuisance and leave my notifications that would be awesome.

Still, the main reason people are liberal isn’t because they believe in different things. It’s because they don’t believe in anything at all, have low self esteem from being alone a lot.00 Reply- 6.4K opinions shared on Dating topic.
